Makerspace Wednesday

Today we had the lovely B3.  We had lots of fun building things and making catapults.  Take a look at the photos:-

Makerspace

ma-ker-space n.  :  a physical space, or environment, in a library that encourages hands-on collaborative learning, sharing, and creating typically through the use of technology.

This term I decided to try out a small makerspace. My first session was with the Librarians and we had domino toppling, building houses with cards, lego, cup stacking and the Sphero ball.  We had a fun lunch hour!!  We also have some lovely books relating to making and creating.

Mrs Chapple and I then decided to try the Makerspace with the Year 2's.  We are taking one class a week for the lunch hour.  Take a look at the photos so far.

David Walliams

Visit From Dav Pilkey

In May our school was lucky enough to have a visit from Dav Pilkey arranged by Scholastic.  Several schools from around the region sent along some of their children as well.  Two of our Librarians were lucky enough to meet with Dav to welcome him to the school and he signed their books.
Dav Pilkey is author and illustrator of a number of books but he is most famous for his Captain Underpants series.  Everyone who was able to attend had a fantastic time listening to Dav, he was very funny and entertaining. He spent a long time signing everyone's books and was very generous giving away book vouchers and posters.  He presented a signed print of Captain Underpants to our Principal and we will have it on display in the Library soon.

ANZAC's

The Library Display for the next few weeks is based on our Anzac Books.  Come in and take a look we have quite a few.

Easter Competition

We had a competition in the Library on the last week of term, based on the picture book Henri, Egg Artiste.
In the story the Easter Bunny paints eggs in the style of famous artists so our competition was to colour eggs in the style of your favourite book character.

Here are the winners:-

They are on duty one day a week before school, morning tea and lunchtime.

New Mystery Picture Challenge

Here are another two photos from the Library can you guess what they are:-

Picture Mystery Solved

Congratulations to B5 they correctly guessed the two pictures.  If you were unsure of what they were one was the leaf on the wooden flower on the display shelves and the other, part of the sign "Pow" on display.

Picture Mystery Challenge

Here is a little challenge for all classes.  Can you tell me what these two pictures relate to in the Library?  They are two different photos of a very small piece of things that are in the Library.  Who will be the first class to email me  at library@easternhutt.school.nz with the answer?
